I am an average homeowner who takes great pride in keeping my house clean, well manicured, and pest-free. However, shortly after purchasing my most recent home, I had the unfortunate pleasure of having many woodpeckers take up residence in the stucco. The birds were actually creating nests and living inside the face of my house! Some days they would create no holes, while others they would drive me to drink. I would often pull into my driveway and see it completely littered with the Styrofoam from behind the stucco surface.
I went through a lot of trial and error to figure out what ultimately works in getting rid of woodpeckers. I’ve spent tons of money and invested more time than I’d like to admit just to rid my home of these birds. My major goal was to drive the woodpeckers away in a humane fashion. Besides being illegal, I did not want to bring any harm to these birds.
I was ultimately successful in ridding my house, as well as my neighbors’ houses from these hard-headed pests. I’ve also helped people from all over the world rid their houses, sheds, trees, gardens, and other structures of many different types of woodpeckers using simple products and techniques.
I created this page to help people save time and money in safely and effectively getting rid of woodpeckers from their properties. When initially searching this topic, I found a lot of scattered information and conflicting reviews on which woodpecker deterrents worked and which didn’t. Therefore, I created this website as a comprehensive resource for anyone looking to get rid of these birds once and for all! I also wanted to teach people about why woodpeckers peck (drum) and how to repair woodpecker damage. I hope that you find your time here both educational and rewarding.
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to send me a message on the contact page or leave comment at the bottom of the page. I am always here to help!
Sincerely,
The Woodpecker Remover
Hi, I tried contacting you, but it keeps sending an error message. When you say the feeder and home need to be far enough away from the house. How far? What is a good distance? If you live in the city, as I do, there is only my front yard and the trees on the boulevard. Not sure where else I can place these items.
Also, can the spikes be placed on the stucco? The stucco paint does not come in the proper colour, or I would use it. I have had enough of these woodpeckers pecking holes in my house year after year after year.
As far as possible would be ideal. Have you tried using Bird Repellent Discs yet? These are one of the most effective woodpecker deterrents on the market!
I fear providing housing and food will just increase the number of woodpeckers attracted to my property. How can I get comfortable that it will not increase but rather decrease the woodpeckers desire to find shelter by making holes in my house?
Thanks for your advice.
You have a valid concern. When going this route, it is imperative that the woodpecker birdhouse be placed far from your primary residence. If it is placed too close to your home, it certainly has the ability to produce an undesirable outcome.
NEED TO REPAIR A WOODPECKER HOLE AT CLOSE TO THE ROOF LINE BACK CORNER OF THE HOUSE. CANN YOU RECOMMEND SOMEONE RIGHT AWAY?
Although I can’t recommend someone to do the repairs, I can point you to our page on repairing woodpecker damage to assist you in doing so yourself!
